I have windows home xp on laptop wirelessly connected to network with windows
98 which has printer. I want to use the printer as a shared printer.

when i try to print using that printer, it gives me error saying "could not
start print job" and.. even tho printer shows as if was shared... and..
marked as default printer on the laptop.. it still does not seem to be
responding to any commands.

printer works fine on the windows 98 desktop (but then, it is hard wired to
the win98 computer

How can i get my printer that is connected to the win 98 machine to be used
in the wireless network so that my laptop win home xp machine can access it?

Any help would be appreciated

Cari, thank you.. but.. please see following:

Article 6 states, among other things (which I accomplished, like making the
printer a shared printer, no more than 12 char and no spaces ).... states
that I need to select the operating system of the other PC that I want to be
able to use this printer. The other operating system is XP, and the Windows
98 does not show any XP operating system to check..

What do I do now?....

(I did go to Lexmark site , I obtained drivers for XP, and put them on the
XP machine , using the Add Printer Wizard on that machine, thinking that
perhaps that would solve this problem.. ) Should I have done that?.. Should
I try to get Windows 98 drivers onto the XP machine?.. Is that even possible?

On the XP PC, download the XP drivers for your printer from the Lexmark
website. Use something like WinRAR to unzip the package.

Use the Add Printer Wizard to add the printer to the XP PC. After it finds
the printer on the 98 PC, it will ask for drivers. Point it to the unzipped
package of drivers that you expanded with the WinRAR software.

Cari, Thanks for your help... I tried to do what you told me and also.. i
found a very good article on members.shaw.ca/bsanders/netprinternopp.htm......
I tried doing what that article said and what you said..... still did not
work...

I am just going to assume that having a printer on widows 98 as the host
will not work with xp home wireless... and also assume that microsof does not
allow win98 host/ xp client ... thanks again
