Home OEM to Retail Upgrade Pro

Here at work I have a Toshiba Laptop. It came Pre-Installed with XP Home
OEM. The person who bought it also bought a copy of Upgrade Retail XP Pro,
as our network uses a domain. The problem I have is that I want to Upgrade
Home to Pro, as to keep all the Software Toshiba installs on it (and gives
you a stupid little 'restore' disk that cant install the software).

Every time I insert the CD and goto Upgrade, it fails to install on me. It
gets up to "27 Minutes Remaining / Completeing Installation" before refusing
to go any further. I can still move the mouse, and the bar down the bottom
right still moves, but apart from that nothing seams to be happening. If I
hold down poer and restart, it tries to install again, but gets to the same
point and stops.

I called Toshiba and they said it had to do with setup finding the OEM
license, but I find that hard to believe. I tried using Sysrep to make it
forget, but that didnt help. Can anyone give me a hand? Its annoying, as im
sure you should be able to do it.

Hello Alan,
This has nothing to do with setup finding the OEM license.
when you get the hang at 27 minutes.
open a cmd prompt ( hit Shift-F10)
use notepad to read the setupapi.log.
What are the last 15 lines or so in that log?
If you have rebooted more than once, look in the windows folder for a
pnplog.txt file.
If it's there what is in it?
Run taskmgr
What processes are currently running?
I am not sure it's available at this point or you could try running
tasklist /svc >process.txt
This outputs the running processes including hosted processes into the
process.txt file.
Thanks,
