EULA Q.-XP Home (oem)>XP Pro Upgrade (retail)

After updating from XP Home (oem w/disc) to XP Pro Upgrade (retail/blue box)
will I be able to re-locate XP Pro in the future (i.e., computer upgrades)
and be in compliance with EULA, or will the XP Pro Upgrade be bound to the
original OEM computer?
This scenario is, of course, based on maintaining one copy on one computer
at a time per the EULA agreement. Thanks.

No, since the OEM version of Windows XP Home Edition
license is tied to the first computer it was installed and
activated on. You'll need a "Full Version" of XP Pro to
install on a different computer.

Just out of curiosity, I've got to ask the following question:

The OP has a computer with the OEM version of XP Home Edition
installed on it. He went and bought the XP Upgrade for
Professional Edition. He installed in on his computer.

Let's say that sometime after this he bought another computer
with XP Home Edition OEM on it. Why couldn't he uninstall the
Pro Upgrade from the first computer, going back to running XP
Home, and install the Pro Upgrade on the second computer?

I thought you were allowed to transfer any retail copy of XP,
Upgrade or Full, to another computer so long as it was only
installed on one computer. From what you're saying it sounds as
if the license for the upgrade is forever linked to the OEM
license of the computer of the first computer.

As long as the retail upgrade version of Windows XP Pro
is removed (via reformatting the hard drive) from the first
computer, it can then be used to upgrade the second computer.
However, the original OEM version of Windows XP Home
Edition cannot be installed on the second computer, then
upgraded to XP Pro.

Fair enough, but why not point that out to the OP?

When I read his question, I interpret "re-locate XP Pro in the
future" to mean the scenario I outlined. He goes on to
acknowledge the "one copy on one computer" concept outlined in
the EULA.

I'm not trying to be a PITA, I just find it puzzling that quite
a few people on these newsgroups have a knee jerk reaction when
someone posts questions regarding Windows licensing. They seem
to frame their responses around a limited interpretation of the
question rather than explore other possibilities.

I guess we'll never know exactly what scenario Lagarto_Roca was
looking to have clarified.

Yes--as long as you have another OS available to act as the qualifier for
the upgrade. The OEM copy from the first pc does not fulfill this
qualification since it is permanently tied to the original pc.

My original query, by mistake, stated 'updating from' instead of "upGRADing",
maybe this was confusing to some. I thougt that THIS scenario was addressed
in the EULA but, just wanted to make sure before I made a purchase. Thanks
MVP's for a prompt and to the point response.
