Hi,

I feel a little embarrassed coming here to ask this question because I'm
supposed to 'know about computers' - indeed I thought I did too!!

Succinctly here is the problem: I had been using a Netgear wired router for
several years serving two desktop PCs, however because of the recent
acquisition of a laptop computer, I decided that I needed to change the
router (also Netgear) to a wireless one. Previously file and printer
sharing had never been a problem.

Internet connection is absolutely fine on all three devices however folder /
file and printer sharing between devices no longer works! I have tried
completely disabling all firewalls but that did not help. I have been
through the wizard for setting up a home network and it seemed to go through
okay - though it does not make any confirmation at the end of the process.

I have been into the router's own settings but cannot see anything that
could possibly be wrong (even though I admit that it may be possible!)

Can anyone help me with this? I'd really appreciate it!

The router should not make a difference here.

What happens if you try to set up your share manually?
Bring up a command window and enter the command:

net use * \\computername\sharename

Where, of course, you put in your own "computername" and "sharename".
If it doesn't work, it should print an error message that could help.

Check with all/any antivirus softwares. Several antivirus softwares
(Norton and McAfee) have a Internet worm protection module which
behaves exactly like firewalls, which their documentation usually
fails to mention.
