Go to the User control panel, advanced, and enable the Guest account on
your computer.

Go to the User control panel, advanced, and enable the Guest account on
your computer.

Wondering if this might be related to my issue. Under control panel, I don't
see an Advanced option nor any place to enable guest account.

What are the two OP's your both using? does the router see you both the DHCP table? have you both set up the home networking wizard on the two pc's.

To enable guest account click on Control Panel - Users and youwill see a faded guest account user in there double click and read the screen to enable, if that dont work then find the administatives tools from the control panel, then Local Security Policies, then local policies, security options and near the top you will see Accounts: Guest Account Status - change that to enabled. then restart all computers a router just to make sure.

Also make sure your both in the same workgroup with differant name..

No do NOT enable the guest account - it's a security risk

Ensure that you have the SAME users set up on both machines with the SAME
passwords and the SAME access rights. In a peer-to-peer network like you are
setting up, the access information has to be held on each machine, therefore
you need to tell each machine who is entitled to access it. Set up the
users, and then run the Network wizard again on both. That should sort it.
Also make sure that when you do you either choose "enable file and printer
sharing" if using the Windows firewall, or if using a third-party fire wall,
make sure that it is enabled to allow access to IP addresses in your network
range (typically 192.168.1 - 192.168.1.255)

It is but for troubleshooting it needs to be enabled as one of the machines might be trying to see the other using guest promissions.

the security risk with guest account are low anyway, there isn't mush a hacker can do witha guest account other then see whats on your computer and pos but a exercuteable file virus that will only do harm if an administator opens the file, buy then the virus check should have picked it up.

For now disable the firewall and see if that helps if so then you know its your firewall thats coursing the problem,

The two computers dont have to have the same account and password, as when you first try to access the other computer it will ask for a username and password to match a user on the computer your connecting to, once you give it that the rights on the machine your connecting to will be active for the connection between the two.

As long as the account detals you use as the username and password is an administator and the shared files and printer have the correct rights this will be fine,

I have a simlair set up for my other halfs laptop, shes only a user (not administator, but using my account details as the username and password she can access all the music files i have shared.
