I'm setting up my first network,mainly to share the
internet connection with my flat mate.
I'm going to buy a router and a couple of network cards
but I was wondering whether I need another modem for the
2nd pc.

Is this the case? I'm pretty certain I need another ADSL
modem, just need confirmation.

Nope. One modem and router is enough.
