Home networking setup problem

Hi,

I just bought a windows media center machine. I have another winxp pro
machine at home. I want to share files and printer between these machines. So
I want to setup my home network, but I do not want to use the ICS. These
machines connect to a router, the router connect to a DSL modem.

I select the "This computer connects to the Internet directly or through a
network hub. Other computers on my network also connect to the Internet
directly or through a hub." for both mahcines. I have struggled for a long
time, but I cannot see the other machine in My Network Place in either
machine.

I am wondering if anyone has setup a similiar home network like mine, could
you please share your experience?

Are they both on the same workgroup and have you actually shared files on
both machines.

ICS is for Sharing Internet connection when one does not have a Router,
Since you have a Router you do not need ICS, or any other configuration that
involved the Internet, you have to configure the File Sharing on each
computerr, and enjoy the "Magic".

You have a router (which the Wizard calls a "residential gateway"),
not a hub. Run the Wizard again and select the "residential gateway"
option.
