I have 2 XP PRO systems networked via Cat5 cable to a
router, then to a cable modem, I also have a laptop that
connects via WI FI access point, everything works great
EXCEPT my shared folders have a size limitation which
prevents me from backing up my laptop, or desktop to the
desktop with a large drive (250 gb). I want to be able to
back up the laptop overnight approx 28gb then write it to
a DVD RW for archival purposes.

Have you enabled quota management for the drive hosting your shared folders?
If so, disable it.
