Home network

Rick

I have 2 machines that are connected through a router.
Computer 1 running XP home with netgear fa311 adapter

Router is a MR314 by netgear.

Computer 2 running XP Pro with intel 1000pro on board

I cannot get my network to work. I can ping the router
and each computer from itself. Can ping 1 from 2 but not
2 from 1. I can see all conections in the router page
under DHCP. I have tried network wizard many times and
have even installed netbeui and no joy. Computer 2 has
symantec internet security and I have listed addresses as
trusted. Have even tried it with firewall disabled and
have disabled xp firewall and didn't work. My problem
started aprox. 2 mo ago and have reinstalled the os on
both. It use to work with netbeui but not now. Please
can someone help?

One-way pinging is usually caused by a misconfigured firewall program
on the computer that can't be pinged.

I've seen that happen with Norton Internet Security. Don't just
disable NIS -- un-install it while troubleshooting. That will
probably get everything to work. It's safe, because your router acts
as a firewall, preventing Internet hackers from accessing your
computer.

NetBEUI has nothing to do with pinging or Internet access. Remove it.

When you run the Wizard, tell it that the computers connect to the
Internet through a residential gateway (router).

Also get message on 2 that says:
X Home is not accessible. You might not have permission
to use this network resource. Contact the administrator
of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
