Home network problem

I am having trouble setting up wireless home network on newer computer that
worked properly on older computer. Previously used computer with window XP
professional and lyksys router on dsl. I was able to share files, printers
and internet connection on all computers on my network. When i switched to
newer computer with window xp home and a netgear router the only thing i am
able to share with all computers is the internet. i want to be able to share
files and printers again as i could before. I have run network wizard and
wirelwess network wizard multiple times and still can not see any of the
other computers on the network. I have search many sites to trouble shoot
but havn't been able to find anything that corrects problem. Any suggestions.

Can you ping each computer from all of the others? One reason for your
experience is one or more firewalls not setup correctly. And is there more
than one firewall working on any computer?

Did you make a restore disk using the Network Setup Wizard on one of the old
computers? This is a quick way to get consistent setup.

Also, post the results from ipconfig/all on each computer.

You didn't execute the ping command via the cmd screen.
Here is how:
Press start
Enter cmd in the Run box
(cmd then reports the current folder)
Enter Ping <ip address>

You also only reported the results from ipconfig for one computer. You
should execute ipconfig/all on all computers for a comprehensive overview.

I gather that 10.0.0.1 is a router.

Hi
Linksys and Netgear Routers are usually set to work on the 198.168..x.x
subnet.
Your IP indicate 10.x.x.x subnet?
From your description it is impossible to understand what exactly you are
trying to achieve and what is the current make of your Network.
What new computer means, what new Wireless is, that worked before, and what
the switch to Netgear is?
Describe carefully what you have now ignoring the past.
Maybe this can Help accessing for the computer's wireless,

Tks for your response.

I think part of the issue has been a firewall issue.

To start over i previously had a wireless network setup at home from a desk
top computer running windowsxp professional with a lyksys wireless router.
all other computers had wireless connectivity or wireless cards connected to
them. All were able to access the internet and share folders and printers
from all computers. When i purchased a new desktop computer runing windows
xp home i also changed routers to a newer Netgear router. I then tried
setting up the same type network i had before and was only able to get the
internet sharing working properly on all computers. Was unable to share
file, folders or printers from any other computer. I ran network wizards and
wireless network wizards multiple times with same result.

Now i seem to have part of the issue resolved by turning off firewalls. I
just turned off all firewalls on the desk top computer which had two and the
laptop which also had two and i was able to ping successfully. I then tried
printing from the laptop to the desktop printer and was able to on one of the
printers that is connected to the desk top.

So i must be getting close to where i was before. Which firewalls need to
be turned on to protect systems. I have a windows firewall and a firewall in
the virus protection software running on my computers. And will turning them
back on keep me from accessing the printers and files i am trying to share on
my network?

I think part of the issue has been a firewall issue. Certainly

Only one firewall at a time. I prefer the Windows firewall, but others may
differ.
As for the second question, refer to MVP Jack's website.
A misconfigured firewall can certainly cause most of your problems. And,
one that blocks ICMP packets is definitely misconfigured.
And, contrary to what you stated, you have never posted the results from
ipconfig/all. Instead, you have posted the short version which is reported
by ipconfig.

How do i get the full listing version of ipconfig, that is all that has been
displayed each time i ran ipconfig from the command prompt.
Tks for everyones help all seems to be working after turning off the virus
protection firewall software on all computers. Is that normal to have virus
protection cause that much trouble?
