Andy,

Provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, as a start.
Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp>

You'll need to get the browstat program to each computer, and get the logs from
each computer to your connected computer for posting. But the results will be
worthwhile.

There is nothing about a typical hub that would cause a network failure,
short of dead ports on the device. That 'ipconfig' information certainly
would be helpful.

For starters, did you install ICS on the gateway computer? That would be
the one with the modem; do not install ICS on any other computer. Did you
install "File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" on all computers
you want to share? Did you install "Client for Microsoft Networks" on all
computers which will connect with shared resources?
