Hive files corrupt
knowledge base steps don't work
trying to avoid reformat
any suggestions
anyone know what the hive files actually are? (names)
I know 1 is system.alt

anyone know what the hive files actually are? (names)
I know 1 is system.alt
%systemroot%\system32\config\system
%systemroot%\system32\config\default
%systemroot%\system32\config\SAM
%systemroot%\system32\config\SECURITY
%systemroot%\system32\config\software

The origonal registry hive files are at
%SystemRoot%\Repair.

The last backed up hive files are at
%SystemRoot%\Repair\Regback.

Boot the Reovery Console and copy the
most current backup to the \config folder.
