History won't clear

C

I have spent way too much time this morning attempting to
clear the history in IE5 and IE6. I click on Internet
Tools from the Tools link in the menubar. I click on
the "Clear History" button and get a dialog asking if I
am sure I want to delete the history of visited
websites. I click on "Yes" and the list of links in the
history column disappears. I then click "OK" to close
the internet tools dialog box. However, when I open a
new browser page and open up the history all the visited
links that were supposedly deleted are back in full force.
HELP!

If you aren't at least closing *all* IE windows and checking later
if the History is gone that could explain your symptom.
There are several instances where IE shows information as it was
rather than as it will be and this may be one of them, particularly
if something else may be interfering with its commands.

Shut down all programs, especially iexplore.exe and a certain
anti-virus scanner, then use the Control Panel's Internet Options tool
to Clear History.

Good luck
