history won't clear

I go to Tools>Internet Options>Clear History and click on
it but all the websites I've visited remain in my
history. This is an intermittent problem. Sometimes my
history is cleared on the first click, sometimes it all
stays there no matter how many times I click Clear
History.

Possibly your History folder is corrupt:
[XP\2K]
Log on as Administrator and delete the desired <username> folder(s).

"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\HISTORY"

Note: McAfee AV with ActiveX controls enabled is known to cause History
problems.
