I'm setting up two new laptops and also running a 6-month-old laptop. Two
are Compaqs and one is a Toshiba. They all three run Windows XP version 5.1
with Service Pack 2. On one of the Compaqs, when I go into Windows Explorer,
I can easily see the History file under the user name. On the other two
laptops, I can't find the History files at all. Can you tell me where I
could find them? I tried showing hidden files and folders and also showing
protected system files, but that didn't help. And why would this be
different on different computers when it's supposed to be the same software?

Thanks for your help.

Which history files are you referring to? Recent documents history? Word files
history? Internet Explorer web site history? Others?

Is Windows Explorer set to show Hidden files and folders?

Sorry. I'm talking about Internet Explorer web site history. The computer
that does have it shows it by "Today", "Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", ...
"2 Weeks", etc.

I have tried setting it to both Hide or Show Windows Explorer Hidden Files &
Folders. I don't see an Internet Explorer History file either way.

It's quite possible that the users deleted their history files - it's not hard to
do.

These are two brand new laptops and I'm the only person who has been on them
at all. One has had history files from the beginning and the other hasn't.
I've been on the internet a bunch with both of them, getting new software
updates to my programs, so there should be history. I definitely haven't
deleted the history files. In fact, I've been looking for the files because
my husband has complained repeatedly that his 6-month-old laptop doesn't show
them.

I could be completely off base here but check views, toolbars, customize
and look for an icon that looks like a sundial. Add it to your toolbar if
it's not already there. Click this icon and you will get your history.

Yeah!!!!! Thank you so much. The icon is up on the toolbar instead of being
a file down in the tree, but who cares! I'm glad just to be able to find the
history.

Thanks again.
