Local settings/history question

I can clear my history files in my browser (FF) profile (where they
reside) but they also appear in XP's Local Settings/History. Deleting
them via Explorer is a big PITA--they go back THREE weeks.

Is there any way to control at least the period of time of those history
files? Same problem with the buildup of temporary Internet files. Are
there any controls available over these devils??

Right you are. I didn't realize that IE controls those files since I
only use FireFox.
