Hint box hides behind task bar / system tray

Namaste,

I dont know what is wrong with this suddenly, but now when my mouse rolls
over anything in task bar or any icon in system tray, the yellow Hint square
bubble which is displayed is now hidden behind the taskbar. So I am having a
hard time reading the hints, extra. I would really appreciate it very much if
someone could please help me in this regard.

Thanks,
Prateek

Yes, reboot. It's a Windows XP bug which I thought would be fixed with SP2. I was wrong.

Try logging on and then on again.

The problem is due to two windows (taskbar and hintbox) fighting for the
"on top" state. Hints should temporarily override but fails. Once the tip
boxes get stuck under the taskbar, there's not much you can do but restart
or log off/log on.

Thanks, but I tried and restart a couple of times but it did not work. So I
had to restore windows. Unfortunately I had last restore point four days
back. So lost allot of important softwares and settings. But this problem is
ridiculous. They should better rectify it.'

As I previously wrote, Microsoft has virtually finished putting its resources into
Windows XP, with the exception of security patches, which might be perceived as a
liability on their part. Longhorn (code name for the next version of Windows) is the
priority. It was supposed to be released this year, but now has a scheduled release date
of May 2006. Although Internet Explorer 7 was supposed to be released along with
Longhorn, Microsoft, after evaluating the success of the Mozilla Firefox web browser (25
million downloads in 100 days), will probably release Internet Explorer 7 as a download
and/or CD for Windows XP SP2 users, to thwart the tide of people using alternative web
browsers because most hackers aim their sights at Internet Explorer 6 vulnerabilities.
Aside from that, don't expect to see corrections of minor bugs like yours, which have been
a nuisance since Windows XP was first released. For more Information about Longhorn and
Internet Explorer 7 go to:

The taskbar is put up by Windows Explorer, which sometimes gets
confused about its state. I had the same problem you mention, when
returning from Hibernate. Here's the solution that worked for me
every time:

1. Close any open Explorer windows. (I'm talking the file explorer,
not Internet Explorer)

2. Ctrl-Alt-Del to open Task Manager. In the Processes tag find
EXPLORER.EXE. (You can click on the "Image Name" heading to sort
the processes.)

3. Highlight EXPLORER.EXE, and click End Process. Answer Yes to the
warning box.

4. In the menu, click File >> New Task. Type
explorer
in the window and ckick OK.

5. Close Task Manager.

Stopping and restarting Explorer in this way resets the taskbar,
and it's a heck of a lot less drastic than rebooting.
