High CPU usage when idle!!!

Juergen

The Idle CPU usage on my P4/2,4G 1GB Ram is about 12%

This load is consumed by one certain thread of the "System process"
(PID 8).
This thread does millions (!) of context switches.

#################################################################
Now my question: How can I identify a driver/ressource/service or
whatever that belongs to a specific thread?
#################################################################

BTW: I stopped all unnecessary serviced and disabled any non W2K
Tasks:
No change.

TIA,
Juergen

It is normal for System Idle Process to run high. That's what's left over
of what's not being used, for all intents and purposes.

I think he was concerned about the System (PID 8) process running at 12%
not the System Idle Process(PID 0)

Is the system clean? No virus/bug infestation?

Ray, you misunderstood me, sorry:

I wrote "System process" (PID 8) not "System Idle Process", which has PID 0 !!!

You failed to mention that this is an NT machine, as you mentioned in your
multiposted message.
