High-contrast settings on login screen?

The Accessibility set-up provides a checkbox for this option, but it doesn't
"stick" I have my father's laptop set up to provide him with a high-contrast
view, but he's having trouble seeing the login. (I prefer to have more than
one login available on this machine if possible, so I'm not looking to
bypass the login).
TIA.

Rick, if high contrast won't apply to the welcome screen, perhaps it would
help to name the accounts so that his is at the top? XP uses alphabetical
order for the Welcome screen list. You might want to consider enabling
Clear Type too. It is especially helpful on laptop screens:

Thanks. The problem is, he can't see any of the logins. If I can't get the
high contrast, I'll probably set it to bypass the login, and try to teach my
stepmother how to hold down the shift key <g>.

I'm still not finding anything that tells how to get high contrast onto the
welcome screen. The screen appears before the user preferences (high
contrast scheme) are loaded so I'm not sure it's even possible. BUT have
more ideas for you...

1) One thing you do have control over with the XP interface is the user
icon. Perhaps you can find a user icon that's easier for him to see.

2) Use TweakUI for XP to help you control what users appear (or don't
appear) on the welcome screen. You can also use this program to setup an
autologon for his account. TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP.

TweakUI v2.00 for Windows XP:.

TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP SP1:

3) Take a look at this program:
Bootskin
http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/
It's a free program from Stardock that works quite well with XP. They have
a good reputation for their shell enhancing and shell replacement software.
Currently there are about 571 boot skins in their library. More are
available from other sites such as deviantart.com. Someone's bound to have
a skin that will be helpful for your father's welcome screen.

Thanks, Sharon! Have you looked at the General tab of the Accessibility
Options control panel applet. Do you see the checkbox for "Apply all
settings to logon desktop"? It seems that this need was anticipated, but
something went wrong in the implementation. I suspect a registry setting,
but I can't find one.

I looked but didn't see it the first time. Looked again and found the
setting. If you click the ? in the upper right hand corner and then click
on that option, it mentions that you have to be logged on as an
administrator to set it up. Was that the case when you gave it a try?

Yes. I wonder if it means *the* administrator?
