Hide on next mouse click Animation effect doesn't work correctly

I am using a PPT 97 file in PPT 2002 SP3. The file contains animations that
are supposed to "Hide on next mouse click".

If I view the presentation in PPT 97, the animations work correctly, but if
I view the presentation in PPT 2002 SP3, they disappear as soon as the next
(timed) animation starts.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?
