hidden files

i have a problem, my home page has been changed to a site
that i had never visited until i loaded internet
explorer and now whatever i do to chnage it on reatarting
the computer it always goes back to this page. I think
there may be a file somewhere but does anybody know where
to look? also at the same time a folder appeared hidden
in the windows directory, it is called my shares and for
some reason it seems to automatically download a lot of
crap files that fill my hard drive. if i delete the
folder and all its contents (2gb is the biggest so far)
it reappears nearly straight away. anybody out there to
help me sort these issues please?
