Hidden Files

Even though I strongly believe that I have enable the
appropriate boxes to hide my Windows and Program files,
via the Control Panal, they remain in viewable state at
all times. Previously, whenever I clicked on either
Windows or Program files, I used to be presented with a
blue screen that cautioned me not to alter the files
contained therein. There was aslo a panal on the top
left of this page that enable me to either view
temporarly and hide these files. I no longer get this
particular page and panal. I do get different panals on
this page but it refers to viewing modes, ie thumbprint
etc. What am I doing wrong and how can I get my system
to behave as one would expect??

Just because you can see the drive doesn't mean that you can see the hidden
system files.

What has happened is that the desktop.ini files that were in them, and
which told explorer to treat them in this way, have got deleted. I'm
sorry I can't tell you what they should contain, which is specific to
those folders, because I delete the files deliberately. But if you can
find another system where the effect is working, and copy the two
(hidden) files out via a floppy, you can put them back (make sure you
keep the two, from Windows and Prog Files distinct)
