Is hibernation mode relevant for a desktop computer? From all I see it is
relevant for laptops only.

Hibernation enables you to save the current state of your computer, so
that any active applications will be at the same state when you resume
from Hibernation. Other than this, you may find that it is a bit faster
to come out of Hibernation than to restart after a complete shutdown.
