I have my screen saver set for 5 minutes and I want to somehow freeze that
screensaver until I hit a combination of keys that will unlock the
screensaver and show my desktop for security purposes. I don't want someone
else to be able to use my computer while I am away.

Two ways to approach this. Both ways require assigning a password to your
account. You can use one method or the other, or both.

After assigning a password--

Method 1 (using screensaver): Display Properties> Screen Saver: Place a
check in the box to require entering of password to resume. Also in Control
Panel> Power Options, enable the password requirement on resume.

Method 2: XP has a "locked" state built in. Anytime you walk away from your
computer -even before the screensaver has kicked in, press Windows key +L
and the desktop will be locked until you return and enter your password.
