Hibernate Problem

I am using Windows XP Home Edition with service patch 1a.

When I take the PC into hibernate and then try to power back up the PC halts.

I then have to restart the machine and I get these two options

Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu
Continue to system restart

The second option eventually brings me back to the same options.

The first option allows me to boot but it is not using the snapshot data.
The Microsoft website gives details on how to recover from this:-

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294427

But I want to know what is causing the "corrupted memory snapshot" in the first place. I have looked at my event log and I don't see anything there.

How can discover what is causing the problem? I would like to successfuly use the hibernate mode.

Thanks,
John

I would try updating all of the device drivers and, if
necessary, DirectX.

This means the video/sound card drivers, the motherboard
chipset's drivers from the motherboard's site.

If nothing works, perhaps a BIOS update might work.

It's probably a long shot, but I would also try testing
the RAM with Memtest86 from http://www.memtest86.com/.

I had the same problem and had to uninstall SP1 to get
hibernation to work.

I did this several times and gave up on the full SP1
installation. There were no bios upgrades for my
computer. I wound up installing individual updates but
not the full SP1. Microsoft is not perfect and all
systems are not totally compatible with the microsoft
fixes.

Why do you want your pc to hibernate?

I often walk away from my PC and forget to power it off. I want to
ensure that I am not wasting energy and want the PC powered down when
not in use.

Thanks,
J
