I was wondering if there was a simple way to let Windows 98 view shares on
a Windows XP machine. The only way I can transfer files to a Windows 98
machine is the set a share on the 98 machine to full and copy that way.

Hi,

Have you tried the following:
1. Click Start -> Run.
2. Type in the run dialig box as "\\server\<sharename>". (without quotes).
Please replace <sharename> with the Windows XP share name.

Is you Windows XP share more than 12 characters in length?. If the answer
is yes, please view the KB Article # 160843 "Windows 95/98 Clients Cannot
See Long Share Names" at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];160843

Hope this helps ...... :)

I might have fixed it sort of like.
Previously, on other friend's computers, I would drag the things I want to
share to the Shared Docs folder. But when I go through Network
Neighborhood, all I would see is the $IPC share or whatever. I try to click
that and it asks me for a password. What is this password? Do I type in one
of the passwords that one of the users on the WinXP machine use?
But when I right click a folder and actually share it with the sharename
and stuff, it shows up under the network neighborhood!

Thank you!

Hi,

FYI: The IPC$ special shared resource is required for the Server service to
operate.

Hope this helps ...... :)
