I googled this topic and found 3-4 other people have this problem but had no
help. On my Windows Xp Pro Gateway Laptop (brand new), I noticed that the
Power Options icon "the battery or the Ac icon" don't show anymore. This is
not a matter of hiding unused icon's in the properties menu. They are just
gone, I have checked power options in control panel and checked always show
in taskbar? So I have no idea what's going on with it.

The best source of information on a brand new system is
the manufacturer. Assuming it is still under warranty, go
straight to Gateway. You might check the FAQ section of
their website.
