Could be alot of things. Check video and motherboard drivers. Could be
that your power supply overheats and causes a freeze, could be memory
problems, could be software issues.

Do you have an up to date antivirus installed? Have you run a scan? Have
you checked the event log for errors?

That is a start.

First download and burn this:

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/dow....ucsb.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/ubuntu/&arch=i386

Then set your BIOS to boot from your CDROM. Insert the CD you just
burned. Get out of the BIOS and follow the simple instructions when you
boot to the CD.

As a test, try a different browser. Download Firefox or Chrome & try it (or
try Internet Explorer if you're using another browser already!).

It will be just different enough to annoy you, but if the problem goes
away, then it relates to your normal browser & if not it relates to your
broadband cable service or your hardware.

Oh - how's your heat control? Blocked ventilation or stopped fans can cause
heat to build up...

If you are using a Microsoft browser I would go to mozilla.org; then
download and install the windows version of firefox and see if you still
have a problem. It will not take long.

Better yet I would download a liveCD of either Ubuntu, fedora, or Linux
Mint. As a newcomer to Linux I would think Ubuntu would be the best
because of the large support communities. With Microsoft you are alone
because MS only want to see you just prior to the next version you have to
pay for.

With Linux not only is the OS free but 95% of all of the (great) software
is also free.

And yes there is a learning curve to maintain it but you should be able to
use it very easy out of the box and also OpenOffice, Firefox, FSpot and
you have a choice to replace Outlook. You have Evolution from Novell that
has a similar look and feel but faster and you have Thunderbird which is
a little beefier but somewhat more complicated to use the extras.

If you use Photoshop for photo editing you can use Gimp for free and save
100's to $,1000's over the years. Gimp is not quite as good but is good
enough.

make sure the NIC or wireless adapter is NOT set to 'allow windows to turn
this device off to save energy'
