I upgraded my ASUS 64-bit computer with 8 Gigs of RAM from Vista to
Windows 7 and it does work better than Vista. 4 Gigs should be enough to
run it. Go to Microsoft and run the compatibility checker and it should
give you a better idea.

Regardless of what you do be sure you backup your important files first.
If you have Vista 64 you can do an inplace upgrade: Win7 will install itself
instead of Vista. It takes a very long time but usually works quite well.
If you have Vista 32 you have to install Win7 64 to a separate partition or
a separate hard drive to create a dual boot system. If you wipe out your
current Vista installation and replace it with Win7 the Win7 upgrade DVD may
refuse to install again, if for some reason you need to reformat your Win 7
installation, if it does not see a valid Vista install already on the hard
drive.

Yes; however, if your Vista is 32 bit you'll have to reinstall from scratch.
But you can use
a Win 7 upgrade disc for this, just select Custom instead of Upgrade when
the appropriate
screen comes up.

Beware of drivers! Make sure that Win 7 x64 supports all the hardware you
have.

I've done a bit of googling and seen lots of specs, but I can't tell
whether that's a 32-bit or 64-bit machine.

You can upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7 if it's a 64-bit machine and if
you're running 64-bit Vista on it. If it's 64-bit hardware and you're
running 32-bit Vista then you'll have to do a clean install of 64-bit
Win7. Of course, if it's 32-bit hardware you'll have to use 32-bit
Win7.

Going purely by the limited specifications you provided, almost certainly.

However, before making the purchase, check with the computer's
manufacturer to determine whether or not they support 64-bit Win7 on
that specific make/model, and make very sure that they've made available
all of the necessary 64-bit device drivers for the computer's internal
components. You should also determine whether or not all of your
peripherals (i.e., manufacturers have provided Win7 64-bit device
drivers) and critical applications will be compatible before
contemplating the upgrade.

I bought the upgrade to Win 7 Pro and the media for both x32 and
x64 version was included. Are there cases when this is not so? Thanks
