About 2 weeks ago my OS crashed. Took it in and they reinstalled Windows XP.
Since then my computer will not shut down on it's own--it will not
restart--when I turn the computer on it asks me to pick which OS I am
using--and it gives me an error message.

Network Error:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Winsock Description: WinSock 2.0
Winsock Status: Running
giFT is not running!

Can I fix this on my own or should I take it back?????

Hi Rhonda,

If you paid "good" money for them to fix it, and it's been that way since
you got it back--bring it back to them to either fix, or get a refund.

Who is 'they'?
Sounds like they did a parallel installation - which was dumb.

They would be the Geek Squad. On top of all of this the totally wiped my
hard drive to reinstall Windows without saying anything to me and I lost
everything on my hard drive.

Geek Squad--it figures :-(

When the machine boots up and asks which OS to boot - what are your choices?

Don't use the 'Geek Squad'.. You want to find some local dependable
non-chain computer shop if you are going to take it someplace. They
actually care about the business - it's their career choice. It is doubtful
the Geek Squad can say the same thing.

Sorry Rhonda,

I shouldn't let my personal feelings get into things here--I just personally
don't care for their service. Make sure they fix your machine to your
satisfaction, or demand a refund. Next time bring your computer to a
smaller "Mom & Pop" type computer store, and try to avoid all of the "Big
Box Stores" that are so prevalent.

Rhonda

Bring it back to them to fix it. And do not use them again. I been reading many bad reviews about Geek Squad. Bring it to a computer repair shop that is reputable next time. They care about their customers more than the Geek bunch.

Over and above what others have said about the Geek Squad (with which
I agree), it's completely reprehensible of them to format the drive
and cause the loss of everything on it without getting your approval
first.

This happens far too often, and not just with the Geek Squad. I'm not
a lawyer, and have no idea what the chances of success are, but I
would love to see someone sue such a company for doing this, and win a
big settlement.
