We have a users on our peer to peer network who is able to access all network
shares and printers. He is also able to PING www.yahoo.com, www.google.com
and so forth. When internet explorer is opened, it shows no access to the
internet. Same with Firefox. UGH!
I did the netsh winsock reset, ipconfig /release /renew, ran the winsock
fixer app, and still no dice. What's left? I really don't want to have to
reinstall the os.

I also reinstalled IE7 by downloading the installer on one machine, then
copying it to his computer. It was able to authenticate, and download/install
the rest of the package. Still though, when run, there is no internet
connection.

I have cleared the caches and cookies as well.
Windows XP pro.
Thanks!

The only thing that pop's into my head if he can ping the dns www.google.com
and get a response is that something must be blocking port 80. Is there a
firewall installed? What about the XP firewall, is it running?

The only 2 things left I can thing of, is make sure IE is set to use the
right connection. Or, there must be a virus that is blocking port 80
traffic. Try downloading a trial of a different scanner than you are using
and running against your computer.

I wound up doing a restore to one day last week. Everything is working fine,
and it hasn't happened since. Go figure!
