I have a Compaq Presario desktop PC with a 2.8 GHz Intel Celeron Processor,
512 MB ram and 120 GB hard drive. Recently, the computer shut down without
warninga, and when I tried to restart the computer, it said that windows did
not start successfully, and it asked if I wanted to restart in safe mode,
safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good
configuration, or start windows normally. I have tried to restart under each
method only to receive the black windows screen with the scroll bar, and then
the computer restarts to the same page as before. I have kept the Norton
Internet Security and Webroot Spy Sweeper up to date on this computer, so I
don't think it is a worm or virus, but I cannot figure out what to do!
Please Help!!!!

Hi

If you can't access Windows from any of those options, then you will have
try a 'Repair' install of XP. Please have a look at the following article

I don't have the xp cd, is there anything else that I can try? I also tried
the last known configuration that worked, but it did the same thing.

I'm afraid there is no other way to fix your OS... search for the XP CD.. if
you can't find it, call the computer manufacturer. If you bougt a OEM copy
of windows, they should be able to provide you a new CD. Anyway, if your
computer rebooted by it self, might be a hardware problem, probably the RAM
or the power suply... My advice is to take the box to the computer shop and
ask for help.

Good luck
