HELP!!!...XP keeps hanging!!

can someone please tell me how i can stop XP from locking
my pc!!!
i installed XP as a new installation from a CD( i was
running Win98) and it installs fine... but after several
days of use it starts to lock... sometimes as the main
startup screen is just loading!!!.
Anyone have any ideas as im totally stumped!!!

Did you verify that there were no compatability problems with any hardware on
the system?

Yours sounds more like hardware issue. Heat / Fans /
dirt / Was the old drive used and reformated? Amount
of memory? New programs added after first day?
