Think we'll all treat this with the contempt it deserves.

Rock gives excellent answers on a regular and frankly amazing basis. Your
complaining about Rock automatically diminishes your standing in my eyes to
zilch. Still...

Anyone can offer advice in these newsgroups, even you. If it's any good,
people will benefit. If it isn't, you'll get a ton of corrections (and
derision if you persist with nonsense.)

One doesn't call oneself a Microsoft MVP, Microsoft does. It's an award for
past performance and does not carry any obligations other than those
contained in an NDA that we sign in order to get access to information not
provided to the public.

Grumpy isn't an MVP and you already ARE complaining about these people. What
more do you want? Microsoft is certainly not going to give a hoot what you
think about MVPs or anyone else here, unless they're spouting profanities or
engaging in illegal activities. Still, you're welcome to peruse
Microsoft.com and see if you can find someone who'll listen (poor soul.)

PS: What makes you think Rock is a she? I'll admit that I don't know Rock's
gender.

A connection to the Internet and a newsgroup server. That's it.

I thought that current MVPs call the shots on the new ones.

I find it hard to believe that MS woulda elevated Carey Frisch to MVP.

Rocketman, you seem to have misunderstood what this newsgroup is about;
it's a user-to-user group, not an official Microsoft support channel.

Yes, there are many people here who are "qualified in computers" and
many more who are simply Windows users -- some with vast experience and
expertise. Others may be relatively new to computers but if they've come
across the issue you're experiencing, they may be the very person with
the answer you need. Are you going to refuse help because it comes from
"a secretary" rather than an IT professional? Personally I've had far
more help from newsgroups, user forums and Google than I ever have from
official technical support desks . . .

Perhaps you are frustrated and fed up by not getting an answer to a
problem, but you should realise that posting in such a rude and
demanding way isn't likely to get you anywhere. Understand that nobody
has a "right" to an answer here and people who respond are giving their
time and knowledge free to try to help you. It can take a few days for
the right person to see your post and reply; if no one replies, maybe
nobody has an answer, or perhaps what you're asking wasn't clear. You
can always re-post your question and maybe think about re-phrasing it
and using a clear, descriptive subject line -- this group has *a lot* of
traffic and many regulars simply skip subjects such as "Help!!!!". They
don't have the time to read everything.

Your comments about Rock are just untrue and ignorant. Instead of
looking down your nose at Google, go to Google Groups, search for his
posts and you'll see how he (and other group stalwarts like him) give
hours of their time every day to help users with problems. When you do
the same, yes, you might qualify for the title MVP.

Oh, and we are not all "gentlemen" here either :-)

MVPs don't have a say on who is appointed. They can nominate someone, but
the evaluation and decision is made by the MS MVP team.

That's correct for Rocketman's first question, but not necessarily
correct for his second one.

Very well stated Nightowl; my thoughts exactly!

Thanks to *ALL* who contribute here (oh, you too Rock <bg>) !

So what if someone uses Google to find answers to help someone. Not everyone
knows everything. Besides, that's what Google is there for - to help people
get answers to their questions.

Wouldn't you want a good answer to your problems. People in this forum are
trying to help you. And no, they are not useless and they don't just moan.

You should be thankful that people are willing of THEIR time to get on this
forum and help people.

Herfried is another who should never in a million years have a MVP award

From the FAQ Page:

http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpfaqs

Q3: How does Microsoft select its MVPs?
A3: Over 100 million people participate in technical communities but there are
only about 3,500 MVPs worldwide. Outstanding technical community members are
nominated by their peers, Microsoft employees, and MVPs. Each year a panel of
Microsoft employees reviews the contributions of each nominee for quality,
quantity, and level of impact on the technical community. Today's MVPs reflect
Microsoft's global customer base and the breadth of its technologies.

Q4: Are there Microsoft MVPs experts in all Microsoft technologies and products?

A4: No. Although many MVPs have in-depth knowledge of more than one product or
technology, none of them are experts in all Microsoft technologies or products.

This section you yourself quoted shows that many people disagree:

In my opinion the real reason for your continued sniping at MVPs is
contained in this post:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb/msg/da5771bd143aba07
After spending so much time answering questions & not getting any
reward like an MVP I decided to stop. People like myself deserve it,
but never get the recognition

The simple fact that you think you should get some "reward" other than
the sheer pleasure of helping someone is why you'll never make an MVP.
Jealousy ain't pretty.
