Help with Tracking Changes

Guest

I have a document with Tracked Changes. The status is 'Final showing Markup'
which doesn't print correctly. It prints fine when changed to 'Final'. The
problem I have is that when I save it as 'Final', it always re-opens as
'Final showing Markup'.

Please can someone help on what needs to be done to fix this??

Many thanks

Hello Olwenh,

Garfield provide the solution as follows;

In Word, click on Tools | Options | File Locations. Note the
location of the "User Templates" folder. The default location for this
folder is C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates. Open your normal.dot template in the User
Templates folder. Change the margins (File | Page Setup | Margins) and turn
off Track Changes (click the Track Changes button on the Reviewing toolbar to
toggle it off). Type a few characters, and then delete what you just typed
(this is to make Word think you changed something in the template). Save and
close your normal.dot template. Write back if you have problems.

Hope this helps,

Garfield here... I think Brian quoted a reply I offered to a different
question, and I don't think it applies to your situation.

In Word, click on File | Print, and in the "Print what:" box, choose
"Document" instead of "Document showing Markup".

If there are no tracked changes or comments in your document, then Final
view would look the same as Final Showing Markup view. Word 2002 and
2003 open in Final Showing Markup view to let you know that your
document contains tracked changes and/or comments, and to save you
possible grief from inadvertently sending the document out that way.
But if you really want to turn this feature off, you can by clicking on
Tools | Options | Security | uncheck the "Make hidden markup visible
when opening or saving" box | OK.

Thanks to both of you and I've now got it fixed. It's as you said, it's
around the tracked changes and the security feature to try to stop you
sending out documents with the different versions showing. You have to
either accept or reject tracked changes - which removes them and can now
print properly.

Thanks
