Help with telplates.

I have users access my Computer lab. On one of the shared drives I placed a
template in word. One of the users opened the template and edited it and
saved it. It saved at the original template. I thought when you opened a
template and then saved it, it would be saved at a Word Document. Is this so
, and if it is normal what do you think he did wrong. Thank you in advance.

When you *open* a template, you edit it just like any other document. The
default action for Word templates (*.dot files) in Windows is New, which
creates a new Word document based on the template. This is what will happen
if you double-click on a .dot file in Windows Explorer or choose a template
from Word's File New dialog. If you are not seeing your template in the File
New dialog, you may have saved it in the wrong place (presumably you want it
in the Workgroup Templates folder shown on the File Locations tab of Tools |
Options). If you are not getting a new document when you double-click on it,
then perhaps it is a document (.doc) rather than a template (.dot)?
