Help with Spell Checker in Outlook 2007 - Doesn't check words

M

MikeyB

HI Everyone, I'm having this issue as well. Hope this helps.

Signatures and Stationery are a factor, if you use them your emails must be
HTML.

It appears for some reason that if you have an HTML email body then outlook
won't check spelling in some cases.

I have found that pasting 'Hi' from a word 2007 document into my email fires
the spell check into life. Something in the HTML changes and Outlook can then
check the spelling.

Come on Microsoft lets have a fix!

well isn't it great that MS ignores a problem that people have for about an
year waisting there time, like i am today on a sunday? if i would treat my
customers like this they would kick my butt. and the whole computer comunity
continues applauding MS what a great company they are. yes they are great
because they are able to screw up the whole world like now with the useless
new interface for office 2007 for month and years on a row, holding the world
hostage and on top charging the same people for software that does not work.
in addtition to the problems here reported tha i can confirm i found that
when right clicking on words that outlook identified as misspelled (red
underlined but doesn't correct it as it should) instead of the usually drop
down with alternative spellings a drop down with two options shows up, first
line is my full name (the name i gave to my autosignature) with a check mark
on and the second line says "signature". when clicking on "signature" the
window for the autosignature set up pops up.
seems to me that outlook gets confused between autocorrect and autosignature.

IS THERE SOMEBODY AT MS THAT READS THESE COMPLAINTS AND DOES SOMETHING TO
FIX THEM AFTER ONE YEAR OR IS ALL WHAT THIS COMAPANY IS TAKING OUR MONEY AND
LAUGHING ABOUT WHAT IDIOTS WE ARE ALL MAKING MR GATES THE RITCHEST MAN IN THE
WORLD ACCORDING TODAYS NEWS?
SOUNDS LIKE THE PEOPLE THAT GET BONUSES TO RUN OUR COMPANIES IN THE GROUND.

this also remembers me about another annoying issue in excell taht goes on
since i use it (~ 15 years).
when setting the options for iteration it frequently looses this setting
after saving and reopening.

I am not running Vista but Beth Melton in another chain indicated that you
need to delete the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\ProofingTools\1.0\Override\en-US

I tried it and it worked.

Thank you, Madonna-Megara. Outlook 2007, on Vista, wasn't spell-
checking *anything* on my emails, not even egregious errors I entered
purposely. Deleting the reg key has fixed it, at least for now.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.

Our computer has Vista installed and has the office 2007 installed.
Originally the email was working and the spell checker picked up errors etc.

The last week or so the spell checker fails to pick up errors and comes up
with a message saying "the spelling and grammer is complete. Text marked with
"do not check spelling or gramer" was skipped.

I have looked at the settings and it sould be underlining errors as we type,
which it does not, and also told it to check before sending, again which it
is not. When we even press the spell button to do it manually - we get the
message above.

When we open outlook the first email works fine - but after this we get this
message when they are several errors as we are doing it on purpose.

Can anyone help - I don't know what else to try????????

THanks

Claire

I am having a similar problem with my spell check in Outlook 2007. I have
tried running diagnostics, doing a repair, and uninstalling / reinstalling
Outlook. I read the post regarding deleting the registry key, but this
registry key was not present for me to delete.

My spell check worked for about 6 months and randomly stopped one day.
Spell check works in all other Office programs - Outlook is the only problem.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is very
frustrating. Thanks for any help!

This works! My Outlook 2007 reports that 'Text Marked do not check spelling
or grammer was skipped' when I try to manually spellcheck after it just
stopped working yesterday after 2 years of use. If I paste default formatting
from a Word doc (eg by cutting and pasting a word to the beginning of my
Outlook mail message) then the spellcheck works again.

How do you turn off the default that seems to have been set in the html, ie
text is being marked as 'not to be checked' by default?

Try this...

Tools -> Trust Center
Click on Add-ins
At the bottom of the window where it says Manage:, change it to Disabled
Items and click Go

Hopefully you'll get a list with at least one item. It's something like
"spellcheck-en". I'm not sure exactly because after I enabled it, it went
away and does not appear on any ofthe other "enabled" lists.

In any case, slect that item and click Enable.

Spell checking worked after that.

Hope this works for you.

My boss had this happen three days ago. After three days of troubleshooting
we narrowed it down to a windows registry problem. Unfortunately, we
couldn't pin down which registry command, so we created a new windows log-in
and now it works fine.

Does MS use Outlook or Gmail... or are they assessed as good spellers before
they are hired, or is that when they need to add a proper name to the spell
check dictionary that submitted via code? We can only assume these
absurdities otherwise if they used Outlook 2007 they would be facing the same
issues as the multitude of customer users who experience this spell check
issue.

It worked! It now does not work! I cannot add or use the spell check
dictionary in Outlook. Although if I needed to spell Gandolf or Frodo, this
would not be a problem. However, spelling other 'real' names NOT from Middle
Earth is prohibited. MS Developers don;t come knocking on my door looking
for work. Fix your crap, maybe we can talk.

I have had the very same problem in Outlook 2007, and, "years later" this is what has just worked for me:

Select the entire message.
Expand the "Spelling" button, and select choose Set Language.
Uncheck the "Do not check spelling or grammar".

Creating or deleting the registry entry did nothing form me, nor did any of the other work-arounds here, or on the Microsoft website work for me.

My thanks go out to Diane Poremsky, over at http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/email/spell-check-is-not-working/ for providing me this fix.
