Help with Spell Checker in Outlook 2007 - Doesn't check words

C

Claire

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.

Our computer has Vista installed and has the office 2007 installed.
Originally the email was working and the spell checker picked up errors etc.

The last week or so the spell checker fails to pick up errors and comes up
with a message saying "the spelling and grammer is complete. Text marked with
"do not check spelling or gramer" was skipped.

I have looked at the settings and it sould be underlining errors as we type,
which it does not, and also told it to check before sending, again which it
is not. When we even press the spell button to do it manually - we get the
message above.

When we open outlook the first email works fine - but after this we get this
message when they are several errors as we are doing it on purpose.

Can anyone help - I don't know what else to try????????

THanks

Claire

Claire,

I am running XP and have a new computer with the new Office 2007 and have
the exact same problem. I have not found a fix for it yet. Let me know
if you do. I will keep working on it.

We too are having this issue on a Windows 2003 Terminal server.

Ran all Outlook/ Office 2007 updates today, no luck.
Checked all settings I can find, no luck.
Tried everything short of un-reinstall.

My Users would GREATLY APPRECIATE if anyone has the magic fix!

Michelle,

I have spent hours on the support phone line with Microsoft during the last
week. We have unstalled and reinstalled from my Office 2007 disc. One
technician then went into the registry and added and deleted values. But to
no avail, it still is not working consistently. One thing I am trying today
is removing my automatic signatures to my mail - this is the area that is
being 'skipped' during spell check. You can not type on the same line as the
signature, but above or below the line it would check spelling. Of course,
this still doesn't see to work all the time either....I am leaving my ticket
on this issue open eternally!

Of course they 'claim' they ar enot kepping complaints....but when I look
here I see them everywhere. Someone at Microsoft needs to open their ears to
this problem.

Claire,

We are also having trouble with the spell checker, but it isn't only a
problem in Outlook. It has also stopped checking in Word as well.

When we are 'replying' to an e-mail message, the checker seems to be
working, but if it is a brand new message, it's not working.

Very frustrating. Hope someone comes up with the solution soon.

Hey guys, same problem here! I can't spell to save my life so everyone
thinks i'm retarded!

I did notice that if you type a word a few time like "sucks sucks sucks,"
the spell check picks that up. But type in suckz... nothing.

Maybe we could post here every day until Microsoft gives us a work around?
Or we could start one of those chain letters stating that Bill Gates is
giving money away for whom ever fixes the issue.

Deleting my signature seems to have fixed it for me. Anybody else tried this
and found the same ?

Manchester, thanks for the tip. i have a few signatures in Outlook. did you
delete all of your signatures and once it was fixed, were you able to create
a signature again?

No every time I create a signature it stops working. Have you tried this any
joy for you. I guess what we need to know is how to get spell checker to work
with signatures.

You've got the same issue I have: grammar check works, spell check, not so
much. I have office 2007 and spelling works everywhere else but Outlook..
which is the most important app to have spell check!

Spell check is becoming more involved with all sorts of programs. It
started out with Outlook and Word, but now there are spell checks for
social marketing sites, Instant messengers. I own a couple blogs and
I have upgraded them all for spell check as well. If your interested
in any of these programs heres the site i found to be very helpful -

I'm having the same exact problem - Using Office Professional 2007 on XP and
spell checker doesn't work in Outlook or Word. I haven't tried it in other
Office apps, but would assume it isn't working their either.

I've tried all of the suggestions, including deleting the 12.0\Word registry
keys, with no luck.

M$ obviously knows about this and it is obviously a major bug, however,
there is nothing in their knowledgebase that I can find about it and their
tech support wants to charge me for trying to troubleshoot this problem.

I can only imagine how many more people around the world are pulling their
hair out at this large problem in this software.

I am having the same problem. My spell check in word does not work...grammer
works fine but spell check doesn't. I am so incredibly fed up with Microsoft
right now. If anyone finds a solution please let me know.

I had the same problem using Office 2007 and Vista. Mine was caused by
choosing the English UK dictionary and persisted after I changed back to
English US. The Word discussion group gave me a fix that worked for the Word
problem: Office Button > Word Options > Add Ins > Manage (select disabled
items) > Click on the English US dictionary and re-enable it. It didn't fix
Outlook, though, and neither did removing the signatures or reinstalling
Outlook. Any other ideas?

Outlook 2007 Spelling Within Signature - Solution

The solution to the spelling problem within Outlook 2007 signature can be solved using Quick Parts to recreate the signature.

I use an image as the header and a standard text footer for my emails. I set this up as a signature. The text of the email was typed between the image and footer text, but I could not get it spell checked because Outlook does not spell check within a signature. No real solution was found.

My solution is to use Quick Parts in the Insert Tab of a new email. Open a new email without a signature and recreate the header and footer that you want. Highlite the parts you want, select the Insert tab, click the Quick Parts and save the selection in the Quick Parts gallery. Turn off the signature in Outlook.

Now you can use Quick Parts to paste this selection into any email. To try it . . Create a new email which should be a blank page. Click the Quick Parts and insert the saved part. It will look just like the previous signature and you can spell check within it.

If something wasn't clear, google "Quick Parts". I hope this helps . . .

Hi all, it appears that this problem hasn't been solved yet. I also have a
customer who is running XP with Office 2007. In the beginning all worked
fine. Then one day spell checker quit working in Outlook but still works in
Word.

Hopefully someone knows how to fix this.

I have Office small business 2007 and vista on an incredible new computer
1/09. Office is retaining my spelling and grammar setup, but Outlook does
not. It has been more than an annoyance. Bobster13, and everyone, thank you
for reassuring me that I am not alone and that there is no fix at this time.
Anything else I have to say would be ranting!
