Help with new windows security update It broke my computer

Hank

I am running Windows XP SP2 with all the latest updates until now.
Today I got security update KB951748 and as usually accepted it an
installed. Not looking too closely at it but did notice something
about malicious software removal and reporting back to Microsoft or
something like that. After it was installed I restarted my PC as
requested. After it came back up I was blocked from getting onto the
Internet. Everything looked normal and I even tried repair of the
connection which seemed to work but still no connection. To check
things out I fired up my laptop going wireless through the same router
etc. This worked fine. I then uninstalled this latest update and
everything is back to normal. I am also running Zone Alarm Internet
Security Suite. Any chance that the problem is a comflict there? As
other suggestions? I do not want to turn off updates.
email response not expected but to respond remove .uk at end
TIA

I had the same exact problem. Windows XP SP2 with Zona Alarm Internet SS.
Woke up this morning and realized an update was ready for installation,
"Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool July 2008." Just after the
install was complete I tried to connect to the web (DSL) and could not. Ran
diagnostics and it said there was most likely a problem with Firewall
settings for HTTP Port 80, Port 443 and FTP Port 21. Restored the PC back to
pre install and it connected fine.
