Help! windows won't open

I turned on my computer and a message popped up, saying the computer wouldn't
open windows because it has a problem which could damage the computer. It
said to try to adjust some bios settings (which I tried and nothing happened)
and to delete any newly loaded programs (which I have none of). It was
working fine just this morning. Is there some way to force windows to open or
do I have to reload?
 
If the hd is ok,install xp cd,boot to xp cd,recovery,press enter for
password,
type:CHKDSK C: /R When its thru 15-20 minutes,type:EXIT Let xp start up.
 
I tried that, it won't let me boot from cd rom, even if it is set as first
boot up
