Help! Virus (?) and wi fi not working!

Hi all,
yesterday after surfing the web i realized that Avast 4 who was running
normally at the beginning of the session was now turned off with a red
circle on that.
I couldn't restart it so i restarted the whole system.
Now every time i restart the computer avast icon just appears with a
red circle in it. Also, if i tried to click 'Launch Avast protection'
but i got a message that the program couldn't run.
At the same time, i also realized my wi fi connection didn't work
anymore. When i go to the list of wireless networks available, it tells
me that windows cannot configure it because another software is
managing the connections. When I try, as suggested, to run Zero
Configuration service it just doesn't allow me to do it, giving me
Error 1068.
I tried to reinstall Avast, but even if i reinstall it, then when i try
to run it looks like the software is not there or i get an error.
Finally, I run Avast virus cleaner but it tells me that everything is
ok...
My guess is some virus conflicted with avast and is now impeding my
internet connection...
Can someone help me or suggest me what to do?

Not a virus, I think, but it looks like you've been hijacked. Someone
else is using your wifi network, and quite possibly has intruded into
your computer as well. My guess is that you have an unsecured wifi network.

Disconnect your wifi, all of it, and clean your computer. Depending on
how you were hijacked, there may be alien software on your computer --
that is, your computer may have been made into a zombie. So do not
connect to the internet via cable. You must clean and possibly
reconfigure your computer. That will take some work, and depends on how
you've been hijacked. It's not a task for non-techies (which you seem to
be.) So take your box to a reputable shop, and pay them to fix it. Then
pay them to set up your wifi so that's protected. Or get Wireless
Networking for Dummies, and learn how to do it yourself.

If you baulk at the notion of paying for computer servicing, consider
this: you pay to have your car serviced, you pay insurance for your
house and your car, right? Paying a tech to service your computer is
cheap insurance by comparison.

PS I am not a computer tech - just someone who's worked with computers
from pre-MSDOS days, and had to learn a lot of stuff the hard way. And
I've forgotten a lot, too.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
