Help! System restore still eating up my harddrive

G

Guest

I have noticed that when I use System Restore, or undoing a previous
restoration, the hard drive space is getting smaller and smaller (when
looking at Properties on the C: drive). This currently shows 28.9 GB used.
However, on checking the individual folder properites they only add up to
13.86 GB, a difference of 15 GB!

I followed the previous advice of turning off System Restore, Started
Windows in safe Mode and used Windows Firewall, AVG and Zone Alarm to try and
find any spyware or viruses, but found nothing.

I thought that it had resolved the problem but needed to use System Restore
as my Printer software had gone wrong. Each time i have used the Restore I
have lost more and more space. I think that the problem may be related to
Windows itself?

I have posted this problem under XP Security and Administration (28 August),
but the reply didn't solve the problem) Please can someone help?

Mant Thanks

Hi Mark,

Setting System Restore to use 28.9 GB's of disk space is much to much.
Normally around 1GB is enough.

Here are some tips on adjusting disk space usage and keeping System
Restore healthy:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/healthy.html

Zone Alarm version 6.5 has a bug that creates very large .rdb files
within the system. These .rdb files are monitored by System Restore
and thus end up in the restore points located in the System Volume
Information folder, along with other locations on the system. The best
advise is to revert to an earlier version of Zone Alarm. Then disable
System Restore which will purge all existing restore points, then turn
it back on. For more information on this subject please visit the Zone
Labs User Forum.
