My wife has had very significant spyware problems for
quite some time now. She hasn't installed ANYTHING, and
in addition to that, she used "SpyBot - Search and
Destroy" to get rid of any and all spyware, yet the next
time she turns on the computer and gets online, more
spyware sefl-installs without any messages or warnings!

After I went in to clean, there are three very suspicious
folders. "microsoft frontpage", "msn gaming zone",
and "xerox" don't believe anywhere near this computer.
She's NEVER had these programs, not even with the factory
programs. Also, when I attempt to delete these folders
after getting offline and rebooting, access is denied.
Strangely enough, these folders have NOTHING in them
except "bin" folders that are 0 bytes. Now I know for a
fact that a folder can't "be in use by a person or
program", especially when not connected to the internet,
so I know that these three are the likely culprits, or at
least a few of them.

Another weird thing is that her Internet Explorer, on the
address bar, to the right has a sear field for keywords.
In the "Toolbars" menu, this thing comes up as a blank
field able to be checks, so I know that this also is
spyware.

There are apparently no viruses, by the way.

Anyway, I know that the companies responsible are
committing felony acts here, and I'm sick of this crap.
How do we get rid of these illegal attempt to kill our
computer privacy?

Hi Brandon - Download HijackThis, free, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip it to any convenient folder, start it then press Scan. Click on
SaveLog when it's finished which will create hijackthis.log. Now click the
Config button, then Misc Tools and click on Generate StartupList.log which
will create Startuplist.txt

Go to Spyware and Hijackware Removal Support, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/index.php?s=8a236cdf61469fbad3bddbe810be0374&act=SF&f=11

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in a message asking for assistance,
Someone will answer with detailed instructions for the removal of your
parasite(s).
