HELP! Soundblaster Sound Card not recognised

HELP!
I recently reformatted my hard drive and couldn't work out why I kept on
hearing 'system beeps' (beeps coming from the case). I then discovered that
it was because I had not installed the driver for the sound card. I installed
it and was sure that I had done it properly because I can start all of the
acessories that come with it. But when I go into the Control Panel to
configure the card I get a message saying that there is no audio input device
and all of the options are greyed out. As a result I cannot get any sound out
of my computer apart from 'system beeps'.
Please HELP!

"System Beeps" are not a result of a "bad"/missing driver. System
beeps are usually an indication of a motherboard "hardware" failure.
Several possible failures:

-- RAM
-- Fans -- processor/motherboard over-heating ans the "beeps" are a
warning!!!!
-- Video card -- however, if you can "see" the Windows XP screens, this
is not your current problem
-- PCI card not seated in PCI slot correctly/completely.

Also, with most sound cards, you need to install the drivers (from CD
or downloaded file) before XP can configure it.

I had this issue with a built-in SoundMax chip on an Asus MB.

Try deleting the sound card from device manager, then re-boot.

Windows should detect the sound card and install the s/w for it again.

For some reason, when I ran the installer, it didn't 'stick'. I had to make
Windows detect it and install the hardware, then all was fine.

Yes, the system can beep if there is no sound card driver installed.

I had an older Asus board which beeped, actually a two tone siren sound,
until the correct chipset drivers were installed.
