Hi
I have a problem with my sound I have Windows XP (that come with my Acer
Computer) I have Acer speakers. When I listen to music from my computer eg
using limewire or any other application it is all distorted, when I listen to
a CD it seems OK, when I am on an online chat it is fine but very quiet, I
have the volumes at full and I am only just hearing the people talk. I have
Windows Mwedia Player and also Nero on my computer, not sure if I have any
other media players on but can this be a problem. I am in deep need of some
help.

Thankyou in advance

Start/Run, type:

SNDVOL32

Tho Options can be set to view all slider controls. One of them may have a
low setting.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the sound device, Action
menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.

Yeah this is where I am not sure what my sound device is, in my Sound, video
and game controllers is as follows:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Realtek AC'97 Audio
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
Video Codecs

what one is which, sorry to sound really stupid and I really appreciate your
help.

You could have deleted all of them. A restart finds all attached hardware on
boot. It's probably the realtec.

If reinstalling the drivers fails to help, it might be a conflict between
the modem and the realtec. devmgmt.msc will disable a device. You will
probably be able to do without the modem audio.
