Help [ smc.exe - Application Error]

After failing several times to copy and write files on my CDRW/DVD Combo
drive using CD Burner Xp Pro, I installed IsoBuster and when the process
finished I logged off and swithced off my computer. After a minute I
remembered that there were files I needed for work. I started the computer
again, but this time there was this error message: [ smc.exe - Application
Error ; The instruction at 0x054a2b75 referenced memory at 0x0000000c. The
memory could not not be read. Click on O.K. to terminate the program or click
on CANCEL to debug the program.]

After this, Sygate Personal Firewall could not load and it showed this error
message:[ Sygate Agent Firewall encountered a problem and needed to close.
{Error Signature: szAppName: smc.exe ; szAppVer: 5.6.0.2808 ; szModName:
wgman.dll ;szModVer: 1.1.1222.0 offset: 00002675}]

How do I fix this? I am a novice and do not like fiddling with the registry,
but I have made a Registry Backup. Can I use a Restore Point before this
incident?

Thanks
