HELP!: Screwy desktop icons

I recently installed a game and went through a graphic config tool to set
screen resolution, etc. prior to playing it. After I finished playing the
game and returned to my desktop, I found my icons to be all screwed up. By
this I mean that the icon is streaked. For other such icons where it was ok,
there is now a little white box in the bottom left-hand corner where the
little "shortcut" arrow usually is.

I hope that makes sense. Does anyone know about this and how to solve it?

Here are a few things I would try:

- Use System Restore to revert to a day before the problem occurred.

- Use Display Properties to change color resolution.
