Help screen popups

Help screens pop up unsolicites in most w XP programs,
especially Word, Publisher, IE and others. It's most
annoying in Word because it shifts your type when the
task pane comes up and does not return it to normal when
your close the task pane.
Any suggestions on how to disable Help untill you need it
a call it up rather than having it pop up at the
slightest mouse hesitation?!!!

Open Word, go to Tools, Options, View, uncheck Show Tool

Close Mary-helps in Word. I can hide Office Assistant.I
think it woeked in Publisher. Internet Explorer help
screen pops up
