Disabling Help Screens popping up

How do you disable the help screens from popping upin
W XP; especially in Word. When the help column pops up on
right side, it shifts the text and when you close the
dropdown list the Word text does not return to normal,
the text stays shifted. It's hard to spot all the shifted
text. I only want to view Help when I need it. If you
pause the mouse even for brief moments-help pops up!

Undesirable characteristic! How to disable Help!?

In Office applications-it is called the task pane or

mail merge wizard!
I can click View-and check or uncheck show task pane or
in mail merge click Tools-mail merge wizard.
In My documents or My pictures-the help and support
window will pop up by itself and I haven't found the
option to disable it!
