Help running software

Hey, everytime I install a piece of software on my system, It will work the first time, but not after that. It will sometimes work when I reinstall it, and sometimes won't, does anyone know why this happens? And could somebody please tell me why. I'm running an Athlon 1.4 Ghz comp with 512 Ddr 333 mem, a Geforce FX 5200 Agp with 256 mem, and Sound Blaster Audigy gamer, with a retail modem and NIC card. Could somebody please help me? Thank you

Sounds pretty strange!

When you say it won't work after the first time, what exactly do you mean?
Does it disappear? Do you get error messages? If so, what do they say? Is it
all software, or just one particular item? If so what is it?
